Cesc Fabregas gives Arsenal hope over Nico Paz: It's not over yet!
Former Arsenal star and current Como boss Cesc Fabregas has played down suggestions that Real Madrid have already decided to bring Nico Paz back to the club in 2026.
The Argentine youngster has established himself as the biggest talent in Serie A since joining Como from Real Madrid in 2024. The heartbeat of a hugely exciting team, Paz has been sensational in Italy.
Naturally, his form has attracted Premier League attention. Tottenham made an offer for him in the summer, while Arsenal have been repeatedly linked with him, too.
However, Paz's destiny ultimately lies in the hands of Real Madrid, who not only have a 50 per cent sell-on clause but also multiple buy-back options.
In September, Fabrizio Romano claimed that Los Blancos had already made up their mind and that they would bring Paz back to the club in 2026. He recently reiterated this, dealing a big blow to Arsenal.
Fabregas: Why can't Paz stay at Como?
However, Como boss Cesc Fabregas has now played down these claims and even suggested that Paz could stay at Como beyond 2026. "He is a Como player, he will be with us, then it depends on what the other team decides," the Spaniard said at a press conference.
"But I don’t rule out Nico being here next year, too. He is ambitious, he can have an important career in football, but why can’t he do it here at Como? He has helped us grow and vice versa. You can tell if a person is happy by looking at their eyes, and I think he feels happy and good here right now.”
Fabregas' statement continues a trend of senior Como figures rejecting suggestions that Paz's future has already been decided. Earlier this season, the club's sporting director Carlalberto Ludi claimed that Paz could be sold to the highest bidder instead.
"Real Madrid is certainly appreciative of the fact that we worked well with Nico, and also with Jacobo Ramon," he said. "How will it be finalised? I don’t know. There is a written contract and rights. [He will return] unless an incredible team arrives and makes a higher offer."
