Roy Keane wants Diego Simeone to take charge of Man Utd: "He'd cause chaos!"
Man Utd legend Roy Keane has again backed Diego Simeone to become Man Utd manager, should the club decide to sack Ruben Amorim.
The Portuguese coach is under increasing pressure with every passing week at Old Trafford, though did earn a reprieve last weekend when the Red Devils overcame newly promoted Sunderland.
Speculation about his future is in the news on a daily basis, with many pundits and ex-players suggesting he should be fired.
Keane has long been of the opinion that Man Utd should hire Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone, and raised that point again on the Stick to Football podcast.
"I've said it for years, I'd like Atletico Madrid's (Diego) Simeone to go in there," the former United captain said.
"I'd like to see him go there. I know his mate has gone to Arsenal [Andrea Berta]. I think he would just create havoc, but good havoc. He'd rock up to that place. No guarantees, but I'd just like to see his personality, his track record.
"People might think styles of football, they scored five against Real Madrid last weekend. He doesn't like his teams giving up too many goals or chances, but they can play a bit and fight."
Atleti lost to Liverpool in the Champions League last month and Simeone was sent off from the sidelines, though it seems Keane appreciates that passion.
"At Liverpool a few weeks ago, the team aren't as great as few years ago, but they still had fighting spirit. He's on the sideline, he got sent off that night, I'd like a big personality," the Irishman added.
Amorim's job at Man Utd is safe for now
INEOS chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe has announced that Manchester United will not make a 'knee-jerk' decision over Amorim and even voiced his belief that he should be given three years to prove his worth.
He spoke about Amorim on The Times' Business podcast and revealed that he continues to back the 40-year-old, even suggesting that the coach needs two more years before he can be truly judged.
"He has not had the best of seasons," Ratcliffe began. "Ruben needs to demonstrate he is a great coach over three years. That's where I would be. The press, sometimes I don't understand. They want overnight success. They think it's a light switch.
"You know, you flick a switch and it's all going to be roses tomorrow. You can't run a club like Manchester United on knee-jerk reactions to some journalist who goes off on one every week."
Ratcliffe also categorically ruled out that the Glazers, Man Utd's controversial majority owners, could request that Amorim be sacked, saying: "It's not going to happen. We're local and they're the other side of the pond.
"That's a long way away to try and manage a football club as big as complex as Manchester United. We're here with feet on the ground. They get a bad rap, but they are really nice people and they are really passionate about the club."
