Serie A giants AS Roma are the latest club to express an interest in wantaway Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee, according to Italian media.

The Netherlands international is at serious risk of missing out on the 2026 World Cup, having not been called for his country's recent squads due to his lack of minutes for Man Utd.

Zirkzee had hoped that the summer exit of Rasmus Hojlund to Napoli would improve his prospects of playing time, but his decision to stay at Old Trafford has come back to bite him.

The 24-year-old has reportedly been left 'in disbelief' by Ruben Amorim's refusal to give him regular minutes, and he has made the decision to leave as soon as possible once the January window opens.

This has put Italian clubs on red alert, given that they have been his most persistent suitors since his move from Bologna to Man Utd last year. Particularly, Juventus have been heavily linked with a move for the Dutchman.

Roma want 'tempting' Zirkzee deal

According to Gazzeta dello Sport, AS Roma are the latest Serie A side to express an interest in the wantaway forward because of the 'tempting' market opportunity he could be.

Roma are currently in a bit of a financial hole and need to raise €90 million by 30 June of next year to avoid breaching UEFA's Squad Cost Ratio rule. The fact that Zirkzee could be available on loan and that they would only have to pay six months of his salary makes him attractive.

He is also the exact profile of player head coach Gian Piero Gasperini wants to add to his side. He is looking for a versatile forward rather than a traditional No.9. Moreover, he had already been keen on Zirkzee during his time in charge of Atalanta.

The Dutchman wants to leave Man Utd 'as soon as possible' and Roma are expected to be at the front of the queue for him in January. His name came up during a discussion with owner Dan Friedkin on Thursday, but the Giallorossi are aware that they will face competition for his signature.

In addition to other Italian clubs, the likes of West Ham and Everton - also owned by the Friedkins - have been linked with Zirkzee in recent weeks.
