Fabrizio Romano reveals Gyokeres to Man Utd transfer BOMBSHELL
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Sporting Lisbon concluded a deal with Man Utd this summer behind Viktor Gyokeres' back.
Gyokeres was involved in one of the transfer sagas of the summer, going to war with Sporting Lisbon before eventually completing a €73.5 million transfer to Arsenal.
Man Utd had been very keen to sign Gyokeres as well, with Ruben Amorim hoping to reunite with the player he developed into one of the best strikers in Europe at Sporting.
But the Sweden star was clear from the start that the only club he wanted to join was Arsenal, and refused to entertain United's offer.
Sporting 'sold' Gyokeres to Man Utd
Earlier this week, Jonathan Chalkias, an assistant to Gyokeres' agent Hasan Cetinkaya, alleged that before the former Coventry hitman agreed to move to the Emirates Stadium, Sporting were secretly plotting to hook him up again with Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.
“Sporting had concluded a deal with Manchester United behind our backs, that was a problem. United offered a higher transfer fee," Chalkias said.
And Romano has now taken that further on his YouTube channel and said that Sporting actually concluded a deal to sell Gyokeres to United this summer.
The eventual fee would have been higher than the €73.5m Arsenal will pay once bonuses are reached.
This was all done without Gyokeres' knowledge but the player stayed firm and refused to move to Old Trafford.
A war was ongoing most of the summer between the player’s entourage and Sporting over his asking price.
Gyokeres’ agents claimed that Sporting broke a promise to sell him for around €60m plus €10m in bonuses, while Sporting denied a promise was ever made.
This led to Gyokeres refusing to turn up to pre-season training in a bid to force a move through to Arsenal.
Eventually he got his way and he has had a decent start to life in London with three goals in seven Premier League games.
Gyokeres was the hottest striking property around going into the summer after having an incredible season, scoring 54 goals in 52 games in all competitions, and leading Sporting to another league title.
This followed on from his brilliant form from the previous season for Sporting where he scored 43 goals in all competitions for his club.
