'Learning English' - Record-breaking striker responds to €70m Chelsea links
Bologna forward Santiago Castro acted coy when asked about Chelsea's supposed interest in his services, but he did reveal that a former Championship winger is teaching him English.
The Argentine has been impressing at Bologna over the past year, becoming the youngest player in club history to reach 10 Serie A goals. Castro's exploits have earned him plenty of plaudits, with Italian and Argentine media likening him to Inter star Lautaro Martinez.
The 21-year-old was in line to make his senior national team debut in the spring, but an unfortunate injury postponed the fulfilment of his dream to play for Argentina.
Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Castro has revealed that he is still recovering from this injury, which is why he has so far only scored once in this nascent season. "During training, a teammate put his foot between me and the ball, and I hit him," he explained.
"The ligaments in my foot were involved, and there was bone oedema. My foot was red and purple, and I couldn't walk. [Bologna head coach Vincenzo] Italiano is right when he says I've been playing on one foot for the last few months."
Castro speaks about Chelsea interest
During this interview, Castro was also quizzed about the transfer speculation that has linked him with a move away from Bologna since the summer, when Simone Inzaghi's Al-Hilal tried to sign him.
"Yes, they called me," Castro confirmed. "It's true. But I wanted to stay here to complete my development and because this is where I want to return to the national team and maybe live out my dream: the World Cup."
When pressed on the current links with a €70 million move to Chelsea, the youngster was coy: "I've always thought about Bologna. I'm happy to be able to play here. At this Bologna, you have fun playing football. And when you're having fun, things get better."
Castro insists that he wants to win more silverware with the Serie A side after their Coppa Italia triumph last season. He would even "get behind the wheel" at the next open-top bus parade. "I'd be willing to drive the next bus, really. I don't know where we'd end up."
However, he did admit that former Norwich City and Marseille winger Jonathan Rowe, who was axed by the latter in the summer after a violent altercation with then-teammate Adrien Rabiot, is teaching him English. This could perhaps come in handy further down the line.
