Iraola to replace Amorim: Fabrizio Romano reveals state of play
Fabrizio Romano has poured cold water on reports that Andoni Iraola is set to replace Ruben Amorim as Man Utd manager.
Amorim is at risk of losing his job at Old Trafford after a disastrous start to the season was compounded by a 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday.
There have been reports that Bournemouth manager Iraola is leading the race to replace Amorim ahead of other candidates such as Gareth Southgate, Marco Silva and Oliver Glasner.
Iraola has performed wonders at Bournemouth since taking over in 2023 and has led the club to their best-ever start to a season this term.
But Romano says there is no truth in Iraola being on the brink of taking over from Amorim.
What did Romano say?
"Nothing about names now," Romano said on Give Me Sport.
"At the moment Man United are not changing the coach so all the rest is speculation.
"If something changes with Amorim, we’ll see who they pick."
Amorim took charge at Man Utd in November 2024 after the sacking of Erik ten Hag.
He had shone as coach of Sporting Lisbon, leading them to five trophies - including two Portuguese Primeira Liga titles.
He also helped develop a host of talented players, including new Arsenal signing Viktor Gyokeres.
But Amorim has failed badly to replicate his success at Sporting at Man Utd.
United finished the 2024-25 season in 15th position, failed to win a trophy and endured arguably the worst campaign in the club's history for over 50 years.
The 40-year-old has one of the worst win percentages in Man Utd's history also at just 36 per cent, and this number drops even lower when just considering Premier League football.
United's poor start to the new season which sees them well off the pace in the Premier League and knocked out of the EFL Cup by fourth division Grimsby has only added to the pressure.
