Man Utd fuming at 'STUPID' Amorim move as tension grows
Manchester United chiefs are reportedly frustrated with Ruben Amorim’s conduct after ‘stupid and unnecessary’ public outbursts by the Portuguese manager.
Amorim has struggled during his first ten months at Old Trafford, winning just eight of his 30 Premier League games in charge and leading the club to a disastrous 15th place finish last season.
The 40-year-old’s tenure has also been marked by a number of candid comments in the media, ranging from calling United’s team last season ‘the worst squad in the club’s history’ to publicly criticising his players after the shock Carabao Cup exit to Grimsby last month.
Amorim’s latest public decree was to challenge 20-year-old Kobbie Mainoo to compete with captain Bruno Fernandes for a place in his team, which allegedly led to technical director Jason Wilcox ‘scrambling’ to diffuse the youngster’s tension to leave United in the final days of the transfer window.
According to GIVEMESPORT, United’s hierarchy want Amorim to tone down his ‘emotional public outbursts’, particularly when they could lead to damaging the financial value or futures of their players.
It is claimed that Amorim’s comments about Mainoo were seen as a ‘stupid and unnecessary’ move that lacked emotional intelligence or empathy despite United appreciating their manager’s honesty.
United chiefs ‘frustrated’ by Amorim inflexibility and outbursts
United are also demanding Amorim be more ‘savvy’ in front of the media after comments in the summer about the club’s ‘bomb squad’ of players such as Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho, who the manager declared would never play for him again.
The declaration did not go down well with United’s bosses, who reportedly felt it left them vulnerable to negotiating their departures, particularly with Garnacho where the club believe the comments cost them money in his €46 million transfer to Chelsea.
Amorim’s ‘inflexibility’ with his tactics are also said to have frustrated some inside the club, with some believeing there are no tactical surprises during United’s matches, giving opponents the opportunity to prepare a game plan to counter the system.
Some bosses fear Amorim will never alter his core philosophy or even make a small diversion when the situation demands it, leaving the club questioning his suitability for the role even with United being desperate to give their manager a chance to succeed at Old Trafford.
