Fabrizio Romano confirms Chelsea plans to sign Barcelona star
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Chelsea still want to sign Fermin Lopez in the next year or so.
The Blues tried to bring in the Spain midfielder during the summer transfer window, with Romano confirming a €40 million offer.
This was rejected by Barcelona, who Romano says is valued far higher than Barca.
Romano says on his YouTube channel that Fermin was happy to stay at Camp Nou but was certainly unsettled by Chelsea's interest.
This interest is set to continue as Romano says that Chelsea consider Fermin a long-term target and they will continue to follow him with the view of making another move in the next year or so.
Fermin Lopez to Chelsea
Fermin was somewhat on the periphery of the Blaugrana's success in Hansi Flick's first season on 2024-25.
Given the household names in Barcelona's centre of the park, Fermin naturally struggled to win a starting spot in the side.
Still, the 22-year-old's insatiable drive forward was evident when given chances to impress.
Despite primarily coming off the bench, Fermin managed to chip in with a respectable eight goals and 10 assists last term.
This season, Fermin has started well with two goals in his first three games in La Liga.
Since making his senior Barcelona debut in 2023-24, he has managed 91 appearances in all competitions and scored 21 goals and nine assists.
He has been capped twice by the Spain national team.
