Will Chelsea terminate Raheem Sterling's contract after failed summer exit?
Raheem Sterling is likely to stay at Chelsea until January and will not have his contract terminated as things stand, according to a report.
The former England international has been a part of Chelsea's infamous 'Bomb Squad' ever since Enzo Maresca arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer.
In 2024, Sterling managed to secure a last-minute loan move to Arsenal on Deadline Day, with the Blues agreeing to pay the majority of his wages just to get him out of West London.
However, the 30-year-old's time at Arsenal proved incredibly underwhelming, and clubs were unsurprisingly reluctant to take a punt on him this summer, given that he is on an annual net salary of almost €11 million, making him Chelsea's biggest earner by some distance.
Despite not playing, Sterling is in no rush to get out of this current arrangement, and he was only willing to join a London-based club during the summer window.
Sterling to stay at Chelsea
Unfortunately for Chelsea, local rivals Fulham were the only side to express a concrete interest in the winger, but they ultimately opted to sign Samuel Chukwueze and Kevin on Deadline Day on much better value-for-money deals.
Some transfer windows remain open, but there are currently no suggestions that Sterling is in any way interested in heading to Turkey or Saudi Arabia. This has given rise to speculation that Chelsea could terminate his contract.
However, according to Ben Jacobs, this is currently a very unlikely course of action as it would be more expensive for the Blues than to simply offload him in January or next summer.
The topic of a termination has not yet been broached, and as things stand, Sterling will remain on the books at Chelsea until at least the new year. Despite this, he is not expected to be reintegrated into Enzo Maresca's squad.
