Onana signs for Trabzonspor and 5 Premier League stars going to Turkey this week
The Super Lig transfer window continues to prove Premier League sides with an opportunity to get rid of their deadwood, but which stars are heading to Turkey?
A late flurry of activity is expected, with the Super Lig window not closing until Thursday, 11 September, and with clubs like Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, Besiktas and Trabzonspor among those showing genuine ambition, some big stars could be following Victor Osimhen, Ederson and Marco Asensio in moving east.
Andre Onana: Man Utd to Trabzonspor
According to Fabrizio Romano, Andre Onana’s move from Manchester United to Trabzonspor is already signed. The transfer insider expects that it will not be made official until Deadline Day in Turkey, though.
Onana is set to leave United on a straight loan with no option to buy. The former Inter Milan goalkeeper stands to receive a shock pay rise that will last the duration of his one-year loan.
All-in-all, this is a deal that everyone involved needs.
Raheem Sterling: Chelsea to Trabzonspor or Besiktas
Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling faces a season on the sidelines at Stamford Bridge unless he can broker a late deal away.
The former Manchester City and Liverpool star is not short of options in Turkey. Besiktas had aimed for him on loan but with Chelsea out of loan slots, they will somehow have to formulate a permanent deal. Similarly, he could join Onana at Trabzonspor, according to Fanatik, which reports talks have started.
Sterling, though, is unlikely to leave London.
Federico Chiesa: Liverpool to Besiktas
Left out of Liverpool’s Champions League squad, the Italy star faces another frustrating season at Anfield, yet Besiktas have opened the door to a possible move to the Super Lig.
Unlike Chelsea, the Reds still have loan spots open, and that could allow a deal to be brokered, although the Merseyside outfit have said they want a permanent deal.
Leandro Trossard: Arsenal to Besiktas
Another option being explored by Besiktas, according to Fabrizio Romano, is Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard.
Again, they are targeting a loan move but the Gunners have knocked them back on one occasion.
With Trossard unlikely to get much in the way of game time this season, the Belgian could favour a move for more regular football.
Jota Silva: Nottingham Forest to ?
After having a transfer to Sporting CP break down at the last, Nottingham Forest winger Jota Silva is exploring the possibility of moving to Turkey.
The 26-year-old, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €18.6m, netted three goals for Forest last term but wants more regular first-team football.
Sebastiao Sousa-Pinto claims he is exploring options in both Turkey and Saudi, where the transfer window shuts on 10 September.
