Hojlund U-turn? €30m deal IN DOUBT after medical
Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund could come into focus for AC Milan again amid concerns over Victor Boniface after three medical examinations.
The Rossoneri are in the market for a marquee centre-forward and looked poised to strike a deal for Hojlund. An agreement with Man Utd for a loan with an option to buy had been reached, but the deal collapsed due to the player's reluctance to make the move.
Hojlund wants to be the face of a long-term project and is only willing to leave Old Trafford permanently or on a loan deal with an obligation to purchase him next summer. He does not want to have to return to Man Utd in a year.
This saw Milan focus on different targets, primarily Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface. A similar deal to the Hojlund one was agreed with the Bundesliga side, with the Serie A giants initially bringing in the striker on loan with a €30 million purchase option.
However, the transfer now looks to be in doubt as three medical tests have not been enough to convince Milan to finalise the deal.
Boniface set for fourth Milan medical
When the agreement with Leverkusen was reached, various reliable sources stressed that this transfer can not be considered a done deal unless Boniface actually passes his medical with flying colours.
The fact that this was emphasised so clearly was already a hint that there were doubts over Boniface's physical condition at Milan, and it seems these fears were well-founded.
Gazzetta dello Sport now reports that Milan have yet to greenlight the deal after three medicals, and that a fourth examination will take place on Saturday.
Boniface has seen his hugely promising career repeatedly hamstrung by injuries, with the Nigerian previously suffering two ACL tears, the consequences of which continue to cause problems now.
Of course, this deal could still be completed, but should Milan remain unconvinced by Boniface's medical results, they will have to focus on different targets, and this could bring Hojlund back into focus.
That said, this ship may have already sailed as Milan would not only have to change their offer from an option to buy to an obligation, but they would also have to fend off Serie A rivals Napoli, who are making swift progress on a deal for the Man Utd striker.
