Reports this week indicated that Manchester United are in talks with Stuttgart over a deal for central midfielder Angelo Stiller, who has been likened to Toni Kroos.

The Red Devils are in the market for a midfielder as Ruben Amorim has requested more energy in the middle of the park to provide adequate support for his stacked attack.

At 33, Casemiro is struggling to cover the necessary ground, while Manuel Ugarte has yet to show that he is worth the $58 million investment Man Utd made on him last year.

The Old Trafford club had identified Brighton star Carlos Baleba as their ideal target for the midfield, but the Seagulls have ruled out selling the Cameroon international this summer.

Man Utd remain interested in the 22-year-old, but they are now exploring potential alternatives as the engine room remains a pressing priority for Amorim.

Stiller to Man Utd won't happen

On Thursday, reports emerged that Man Utd had begun considering Stuttgart stalwart Angelo Stiller as an option. Sky Sports has since confirmed that the 24-year-old's name has come up during internal discussions at Old Trafford.

Stiller was heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid earlier this summer as a belated successor to Toni Kroos, who retired last year and has yet to be adequately replaced by Los Blancos.

However, according to Sky Germany, Stiller will not leave Stuttgart this late in the window. Reporter Florian Plettenberg even dismisses suggestions that there are 'internal or external discussions' and states that the player is not giving a move to Man Utd any thought.

This is perhaps for the better as Stiller likely wouldn't have been the solution to Man Utd's problems. While the Germany international can cover ground and get stuck into challenges, he thrives more as a playmaker, which is not really what the Red Devils need at present.
