Man City go ALL-IN for Marc Guehi in January
Manchester City are challenging Liverpool for the signing of Marc Guehi during the January transfer window.
The Daily Star reports that City are ready to go all-in for Guehi when the Premier League window reopens in the new year.
City had been interested in signing Guehi this summer but didn't make a concrete move as they always believed he would stay at Crystal Palace.
But City will challenge favourites Liverpool for Guehi in January, with Pep Guardiola keen to strengthen a backline that has looked shaky in the opening weeks of the season.
Barcelona and Real Madrid are also interested in Guehi, the report states.
Guehi to leave Palace in January?
Guehi was close to joining Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
The England international was in talks with the reigning Premier League champions throughout the summer and he was expected to complete an Anfield switch before the 19:00 BST deadline on Monday evening.
A deal had been fully agreed between all parties, while Guehi had successfully undergone his medical at Liverpool ahead of a €40 million transfer.
However, Crystal Palace pulled the plug on the deal at the final hurdle amidst reports manager Oliver Glasner threatened to resign if Guehi was sold.
The Guardian reports that Guehi is furious and bitterly disappointed at the last-minute U-turn by Palace.
Guehi’s deal to Liverpool was so advanced that he even recorded a ‘farewell video’ for Crystal Palace fans.
This was leaked on social media, effectively confirming that Guehi was expected to join Liverpool before Palace pulled the plug on the deal.
The Guardian says that a private jet had also been arranged to take him Merseyside on Monday evening.
Guehi is said to be considering standing down as captain due to his anger.
He believes he acted correctly through the negotiations, unlike Alexander Isak and others who effectively went on strike to force through moves to other clubs this summer.
Guehi will not sign a new contract with Palace so could leave in January so that the club make back some money and don't lose him for nothing.
Guehi has established himself as one of the best centre backs in the Premier League and was part of a Palace team who won the FA Cup in May.
Guehi grew up in Chelsea’s youth system from the age of seven and graduated all the way to the first team.
However, he only played two games in the EFL Cup before he was loaned to Swansea in 2020 and eventually sold to Crystal Palace in 2021.
At Palace he has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League, making over 150 appearances.
He has been capped 23 times by England and he impressed during Euro 2024 on the way to the final.
