Guehi terms agreed: Liverpool take spending to €500m with triple deal
In addition to Alexander Isak, Liverpool are also in talks with Giovanni Leoni and Marc Guehi.
The Reds are looking to end the transfer window in the same way they started it: with a bang. Newcastle wantaway Alexander Isak remains their priority target for the striker position, and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano expects another bid to materialise before long.
However, Liverpool also need more defensive cover. Jarell Quansah has been sold, leaving the Reds with just Virgil van Dijk, the injured Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate, who is on an expiring contract.
The Reds are considering several options for the centre-back position, and due to the Konate situation, they are not ruling out bringing in two fresh faces before the end of the window.
Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is viewed as a market opportunity. Like Konate, his terms expire next year, making him relatively affordable this summer.
Liverpool could sign Guehi and Leoni
Romano, David Ornstein and Ben Jacobs all report that talks with Guehi and Crystal Palace are currently taking place. Jacobs states that Liverpool want the Eagles to lower their €46 million asking price, while Romano suggest that personal terms are already agreed.
Meanwhile, Romano and Jacobs also report that the Reds are actively exploring a move for Parma centre-back Giovanni Leoni. This has also been confirmed by Anfield Watch, which adds that the Serie A club want €50m after rejecting a €35m bid from Chelsea earlier this summer.
Romano insists that Guehi and Leoni are not mutually exclusive targets. Jacobs echoes this, revealing that 'both could arrive under the right circumstances.' Similarly to Guehi, though, Liverpool have concerns about Leoni's price - but the player is keen on the move.
Should they manage to secure both as well as top target Isak, it would likely see their summer spending shatter the €500 million mark, making this the biggest transfer window by a single club ever. Chelsea currently hold the record for their €464m outlay in 2023.
