Mourinho hits €100m milestone as legendary manager SACKED by Fenerbahce
Fenerbahce have sensationally announced that Jose Mourinho has left the club just six matches into the season, giving the former Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid boss a fat payoff in the process.
The Super Lig outfit announced their decision on social media on Friday, following Fener’s disappointing Champions League playoff defeat at the hands of Benfica.
A 1-0 defeat over two legs has left Fenerbahce in the Europa League, despite a sizeable investment in the squad this summer.
The Istanbul outfit have spent €45 million on new players but have also snapped up the likes of Jhon Duran and Edson Alvarez on pricey loans from Al-Nassr and West Ham United, respectively.
Fenerbahce’s statement reads: “Our Professional Football team has parted ways with Jose Mourinho, who has been serving as head coach since the 2024-2025 season. We thank him for his efforts for our team thus far and wish him success in his future career.”
Reports in Turkey indicate that Mourinho has been given a compensation payment of €9 million for leaving the club. He has now earned more than €100m in such severance payments across his career.
Figures from the Daily Mail indicate that he had previously earned €93.3m from payoffs in the past and this new compensation payment tips him over the €100m landmark.
Fenerbahce, meanwhile, have gotten off relatively lightly compared to the likes of Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Spurs, who have all paid him more than €10m to depart.

Why have Fenerbahce sacked Mourinho?
Mourinho had a deteriorating relationship with the Fenerbahce board as they clashed over transfer policy in the summer months.
The Portuguese even went public on his frustration as he said: “If the Champions League was vital to my club, something would have been done with the transfer window between Feyenoord and Benfica.
“I don’t think Fenerbahce has a transfer list.”
Mourinho is accused of having been “distorting facts” by the board, who claimed: “We've asked him repeatedly which players he wants in which positions. He hasn't named any players other than Milan Skriniar. If the necessary transfers aren't being made, it's not us, it's Mourinho himself.”
What next for Jose Mourinho?
Mourinho remains a big name in the world of football management and will still be an attractive figure to clubs seeking a new boss.
Nottingham Forest are likely to be associated with the former Real Madrid, Manchester United and Chelsea manager, while it would be little surprise to see West Ham United also linked with him as Graham Potter is under pressure.
Mourinho will also be attractive to leagues seeking to build their profiles, so rumours linking him to the Saudi Pro League or even the Qatar Stars League should be taken seriously.
