'Finalised next week' - Chelsea receive BOMBSHELL Xavi Simons message after Palmer injury
Chelsea are set to finalise the “written details” of Xavi Simons’ contract next week, according to major reports in Germany.
The RB Leipzig superstar has already reached a verbal agreement on personal terms with Enzo Maresca’s side, and the Blues are set to intensify their pursuit over the next few days.
Simons started RB Leipzig’s opening fixture of the 2025-26 Bundesliga season on Friday evening, versus Bayern Munich, however Chelsea scheduled further talks to take place after the game as they look to acquire his signature.
That is according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, who posted on X: “Chelsea are planning a contract until 2031 for Xavi Simons. Personal terms are verbally agreed, with written details set to be finalised next week.
“Concrete negotiations between Leipzig and Chelsea are scheduled after the Bayern match today. Offloads of Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson will be required.”
Cole Palmer injury update
News that Simons is edging closer to joining Chelsea comes amid fears over whether Cole Palmer could be set for a spell on the sidelines.
The England international was named in Chelsea’s starting XI to face West Ham United on Friday night, but he was forced to withdraw from the team after suffering an injury during the warm-up.
Maresca refused to confirm the nature of Palmer’s injury, although he did confirm to Sky Sports that the decision to remove the Englishman from the starting XI was simply a precaution.
Palmer has been Chelsea’s most influential attacker since his arrival at the club, however Simons is expected to ease the burden currently placed on the 23-year-old’s shoulders if he completes his desired move to west London before Transfer Deadline Day on 1 September.
