Enzo Maresca drops HUGE Chelsea transfer hint
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca dropped a major transfer hint with his team selection against AC Milan on Sunday afternoon.
The Blues eased to a 4-1 victory over Massimiliano Allegri’s side in their final pre-season friendly ahead of the new campaign, but there were a number of notable absentees from the matchday squad.
Renato Veiga, Axel Disasi, Ben Chilwell, Alfie Gilchrist, Carney Chukwuemeka, Raheem Sterling, Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku and David Datro Fofana were all omitted by Maresca, with Chelsea looking to offload them on permanent deals before the end of the summer transfer window.
Mykahilo Mudryk, Romeo Lavia, Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana were also missing, although the former is currently serving a doping suspension and the latter trio are yet to return to full fitness.
Meanwhile, Tyrique George was included in the squad and the Englishman replaced Jamie Gittens on the left flank in the 73rd minute.
The 19-year-old has handed in a transfer request in a bid to improve his development, but Maresca’s decision to reward him with minutes versus both Bayer Leverkusen and Milan suggests that a sale isn’t guaranteed.
However, if Chelsea are able to sign both Alejandro Garnacho and Xavi Simons, they may be forced to accept a sale if they receive a suitable offer for the Cobham academy graduate.
Who have Chelsea sold so far this summer?
Chelsea’s transfer policy since the arrival of Clearlake Capital and Todd Boehly has heavily revolved around a constant turnover of players.
This summer has been no different, with the club sanctioning the permanent sales of Noni Madueke, Joao Felix, Djordje Petrovic, Lesley Ugochukwu, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Armando Broja, Mathis Amougou, Bashir Humphreys, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Marcus Bettinelli for a combined price of €232m.
Reports suggest that Chelsea could raise at least €120m more before the summer transfer window slams shut on 1 September.
