The transfer has been officially confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, and Anselmino has now landed in Germany to complete his medical and formally become a Dortmund player, as per Sky Sports.

The 20-year-old is expected to compete for a starting berth this season, although he could be set for an immediately prominent role under Niko Kovac due to injuries to Niklas Sule, Emre Can and Nico Schlotterbeck.

He will be accompanied by current Chelsea team-mate Carney Chukwuemeka, who is also on the verge of joining Dortmund, albeit on a permanent deal.

Aaron Anselmino to join Borussia Dortmund

Anselmino and Chukwuemeka will become the 25th and 26th players to leave Chelsea so far this summer, including U21 stars, with the club eager to trim down the squad available to Enzo Maresca as they look to compete on multiple fronts this season.

The Blues boss informed Anselmino that he needed to leave Chelsea on loan this summer in order to develop as a player and the west London giants have sanctioned a temporary departure despite the fact that Levi Colwill could miss the entire campaign with an ACL injury.

Anselmino is still seen as a key part of Chelsea’s future, as per BBC Sport, and they have therefore opted against including a buy option in his loan move to Dortmund.

The Stamford Bridge outfit have already raised €264 million through player sales so far this summer and that figure is expected to increase if the club are able to offload the likes of Nicolas Jackson, Raheem Sterling, Christopher Nkunku and Axel Disasi.
