Chelsea fan favourite 'open' to shock return as Romano CONFIRMS approach
Chelsea fan favourite Conor Gallagher is reportedly “open” to rejoining Crystal Palace this summer amid his uncertain future at Atletico Madrid.
The England international has been heavily linked with a summer move after just 12 months at the Wanda Metropolitano and several Premier League clubs have been touted as possible destinations, including Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur.
However, Crystal Palace have now joined the race for his signature as they eye an ambitious reunion with the 25-year-old.
That is according to London outlet News Shopper, who claim that Gallagher is “open” to the possibility of returning to Selhurst Park following a successful loan spell with the club during the 2021-22 season.
Oliver Glasner’s side are reportedly weighing up a loan bid for the ex-Chelsea star and Gallagher is eager to explore a potential transfer as he looks to maximise his game time with the 2026 World Cup on the horizon.
Atletico Madrid have spent €175 million on 10 new players so far this summer, including Villarreal playmaker Alex Baena, and Gallagher has only racked up 67 minutes of action during their opening two La Liga fixtures of the new campaign.
Palace’s interest in the England midfielder comes after Eberechi Eze’s high-profile move to Arsenal on Saturday.
The reigning FA Cup winners are eager to sign a replacement for the 27-year-old and Gallagher has been identified as a potential alternative to fellow targets Bilal El Khannouss (Leicester City) and Christos Tzolis (Club Brugge).
Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed that Palace have officially approached Atletico Madrid over a possible summer transfer for the Englishman.
Conor Gallagher to rejoin Crystal Palace?
Gallagher scored eight goals and provided five assists in 39 appearances during his loan spell at Crystal Palace, and he established himself as a firm favourite amongst the Selhurst Park fanbase during his time at the club.
The Englishman was also loved by the vast majority of Chelsea fans following his return to Stamford Bridge and he enjoyed a fantastic final campaign with the Blues under the management of Mauricio Pochettino.
Crystal Palace have only signed Borna Sosa (€2.3m) and Walter Benitez (free transfer) so far this summer, and Glasner is determined to sign reinforcements before the end of Transfer Deadline Day ahead of their first ever campaign in Europe.
