Manchester United are interested in young Brann defender Eivind Helland, according to Norwegian media.

The Red Devils have shifted their transfer strategy since INEOS assumed control of sporting operations, with the club now increasingly targeting high-potential young players.

Over the past year, Man Utd have signed the likes of Leny Yoro, Chido Obi, Patrick Dorgu, Ayden Heaven and Diego Leon as they seek to increase the club's long-term financial sustainability, which can best be accomplished by signing players with sell-on value and, of course, on-pitch success.

The latter has so far been found wanting, but at least Man Utd have a clear plan of how they want their business to look. The latest youngster to be associated with a move to Old Trafford is Brann defender Eivind Helland, not to be confused with Erling Haaland.

The 20-year-old is a centre-back by trade and has been making waves during Brann's ongoing title challenge, with the Bergen outfit having reduced the gap to league leaders Viking courtesy of an impressive 3-1 win on Sunday.

According to Norwegian outlet VG, Man Utd scouts watched Helland during Brann's victory over Viking, with the player's representative reportedly also having been at the game. The agent refused to comment when contacted by the publication.

Brann are aware that their players are attracting interest from England and are certainly fearful of losing another key man after selling star striker Aune Heggebo to Championship side West Brom for €5.5m last week.

As for Helland, he claims that he is unaware of Man Utd's interest and has even suggested that he is looking to stay at Brann. However, his contract expires in December 2026, which means that a move to a bigger club appears to be only a matter of time.

"I haven't thought much about it," the 20-year-old insisted when quizzed about Man Utd's interest. "It's just the way it is. That's the way the football world is. I'm very calm about it. I feel very comfortable here, and my plan is to be here. I'm going to play really well for Brann."
