Man Utd DENY speculation over wantaway star with transfer still expected
Manchester United have denied that Alejandro Garnacho has been offered the chance to return to pre-season training with the rest of Ruben Amorim’s first team squad, with the winger still on course to be sold this summer.
Rumours emerged this week that United were considering a u-turn after giving Garnacho and a host of other players the opportunity to delay their return to training in order to find a new club.
Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony are among the players who have been given the extra time off, with Garnacho also part of the crop, however ESPN Brazil had claimed that the 21-year-old was told to come back to Carrington, hinting that United had perhaps reconsidered selling him this summer.
But a report by Manchester World, corroborated by the BBC, states that the previous story was false, with nothing deemed to have changed with Garnacho’s future under Amorim.
Garnacho and the other unwanted stars will still be allowed to use United’s facilities as per their contract, while remote support is also available to the players, but they will not be included in Amorim’s crop of first team stars.
The goal is for all the sidelined players to use the extra time off to facilitate their departures, otherwise they will likely formally return to the club while the rest of the team is away on United’s pre-season tour of the USA later this month.
Garnacho sale to be pushed with United desperate for transfer windfall
Garnacho is understood to have a preference to remain in the Premier League, having had interest from all around Europe in his services, although no team has yet to meet United’s asking price, thought to be in excess of €50 million.
Napoli are among the teams interested in Garnacho but, despite reports to the contrary, they have not publicly spoken about the player and are still considering a deal behind the scenes.
United are desperate to raise funds to continue their summer spending, with Rashford emerging as a standout target for Barcelona and Sancho in talks with Juventus over a move.
However, as United have discovered with Antony, teams are delaying their approaches for the club’s unwanted crop in the hopes that their asking prices will fall, leaving the Red Devils frustrated in their attempts to splash the cash this summer.
