The deal comes in light of controversy surrounding the transfer, with Arsenal fans creating a petition to stop the move from happening and generating more than 3,000 signatures in 24 hours.

Chelsea had been open to Madueke’s sale despite not encouraging bids or offering the player out, with the Blues having signed the likes of Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens this summer which would impact the 23-year-old’s game time.

Arsenal reached out to Chelsea last week over a deal and Romano confirmed on Twitter that a fee has now been agreed for Madueke to become Arsenal’s third signing of the summer.

Madueke is expected to compete with Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard on the left wing for Mikel Arteta, whilst also providing depth for Bukayo Saka on the right flank.

The deal for Madueke may end Arsenal’s interest in Rodrygo and Eberechi Eze despite both players being strongly pursued by the Gunners in recent weeks.

Rodrygo is set to hold talks with Real Madrid next week over his future but the Brazilian was considered a top target for Arsenal, however he may look to fight for his future under Xabi Alonso instead.

Eze, meanwhile, became a target due to an agreement with Crystal Palace to allow him to leave this summer for around £60m but it is unlikely Arsenal will consider a deal for him now with Madueke’s impending arrival.

Arsenal could still sell a winger such as Trossard this summer, with the Belgian having been linked with a move to Turkey, but focus will likely instead now be on completing a deal for Viktor Gyokeres to further strengthen Arsenal’s attacking contingent.
