Chelsea still keen on Malick Fofana as deal agreed - Fabrizio Romano

Nottingham Forest have agreed a deal with Olympique Lyon for Malick Fofana, but the player wants to join a Champions League club like Chelsea, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Belgian winger recently emerged as a target for the Blues, and it was initially assumed that Fofana was simply viewed as a contingency should the West London club fail to strike a deal with Borussia Dortmund for Jamie Gittens.
However, it seems that this is not entirely the case. Although signing a new left-winger is no longer a priority, Chelsea remain attentive to the market, and they could yet add a second player in that position. Talks with Man Utd for Alejandro Garnacho, for example, remain ongoing.
Indeed, earlier this week, Fabrizio Romano announced that Chelsea's summer business is far from done despite the imminent arrivals of Gittens and Joao Pedro, who is joining the club from Brighton and who, unlike the former Dortmund man, is eligible to play for the Blues at the Club World Cup.
Romano now reports that Chelsea have not lost sight of Fofana, and that they are 'still keen' on the 20-year-old.
Fofana waiting for Champions League offers
Fofana's club, Lyon, are of course in a vulnerable position, with the Ligue 1 giants having just been relegated to Ligue 2 due to financial mismanagement.
Lyon have appealed the decision, but it is clear that several of their key players are looking to get out of this mess by jumping ship regardless of whether or not their demotion is upheld.

Fofana is one such player, and Nottingham Forest have sought to pounce on his availability, with Romano reporting that they have agreed a deal with Lyon to sign the Belgium international.
However, the transfer insider states that Fofana has yet to agree terms with Forest as he is waiting for Champions League clubs, like Chelsea, to submit offers for him. Bayern and Napoli, Romano adds, have made 'initial approaches' to sign him.
