Jorrel Hato agrees Chelsea terms and hands in transfer request - Fabrizio Romano
Ajax defender Jorrel Hato has handed in a transfer request after agreeing personal terms with Chelsea, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Netherlands international has begun to agitate for a move to Stamford Bridge after the Blues reopened talks with him earlier this week. Chelsea are long-standing admirers of Hato and had already enquired about him at the start of the summer.
On Tuesday, they formally renewed discussions with the 19-year-old to gauge his interest in a transfer. The response they received was encouraging, and talks continued on Wednesday.
His agent, Humphry Nijman, even confirmed the negotiations, telling De Telegraaf: "Yes, the club has reported to Ajax. All I can say is that Jorrel is now talking to Chelsea."
According to Fabrizio Romano, an agreement on personal terms has now been reached between Chelsea and Hato, and the versatile defender is trying to force through this transfer.
Hato hands in transfer request
Romano states that Hato has requested to leave Ajax as his 'clear desire' is to link up with Chelsea. The transfer insider also states that talks between the two clubs are taking place.
Intriguingly, Romano suggests that Hato could be had for as little as €40 million, which is a significant reduction from the €60m Ajax were initially demanding.
Talks are believed to be entering the final stages, so this deal could be formally wrapped up shortly. Chelsea are likely trying to push through this deal as quickly as possible, knowing that Hato has admirers all across Europe.
It is a similar story for the teenager's compatriot Xavi Simons. Chelsea are simultaneously in talks with RB Leipzig over a deal for the 22-year-old, and they are determined to conclude his signing quickly to avoid a possible hijack from his other suitors like Bayern or Arsenal.
