Tottenham are set to sack Ange Postecoglou despite winning the Europa League, with contact already believed to have been made with his potential successor.

Postecoglou led Spurs to their first trophy in 17 years but it came at the cost of their worst-ever Premier League campaign as the North London side finished 17th.

Qualification for next season’s Champions League had given Postecoglou some optimism that he would be allowed to build from that platform but reporter Sacha Tavolieri has led reports that the Australian is set to be sacked by Spurs.

While no formal decision has been made as of yet, Tottenham have already outlined Brentford’s Thomas Frank and Fulham manager Marco Silva as options on their shortlist if they do pull the trigger.

French outlet FootMercato have also gone one step further by claiming that Tottenham ‘have been in contact’ with Frank, with the Danish coach said to have ‘spoken’ with Spurs about the project and even some transfer targets for the summer.

Frank is believed to be top of Tottenham’s list but there is still work to be done on both Postecoglou’s future and sealing a deal for the Brentford boss if that is the path the club go down.

Tottenham fear dressing room backlash with Postecoglou sacking

Postecoglou is still believed to have support in Tottenham’s dressing room despite their turbulent campaign, with football.london claiming that the under-fire boss ‘remains heavily backed’ by his players.

A change in manager has led to fears of a dressing room backlash and Spurs chief Daniel Levy is still thought to be weighing up the decision amid a major reshuffle at board level.

Spurs are planning to appoint a new CEO in ex-Arsenal executive Vinai Venkatesham, while former director of football Fabio Paratici’s return is also ‘expected’ at some point.

Postecoglou has remained defiant over his future and believes he has achieved the tasks asked of him, after ending Spurs’ wait for silverware and reaching the Champions League next season, meaning talks over his future will likely drag on into the coming days and weeks.
