Manchester United have been handed a hammer blow in their pursuit of Copenhagen wonderkid Roony Bardghji.

Ruben Amorim’s side have been tracking the Sweden U21 international for several years and they have been considered as strong candidates to acquire his signature ever since he netted a last-minute Champions League winner against the Red Devils back in 2023.

Man Utd’s interest in Bardghji cooled after he picked up a serious ACL injury last year, but he has returned to full fitness and rumours of a Copenhagen exit have intensified as he only has one year remaining on his existing deal.

However, Man Utd are set to be left empty-handed as Barcelona are on the verge of reaching a full agreement to sign the 19-year-old, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The football transfer news expert posted on X: “Barcelona are advancing and closing in on deal to sign Roony Bardghji from Copenhagen!

“Agreement at final stages with the last details expected to be sorted in the upcoming days. The Swedish winger can join Barca from July.”

Bardghji has scored 15 goals in 84 first-team appearances for Copenhagen and he is now expected to secure a lucrative Camp Nou move, despite the best efforts of both Man Utd and Chelsea, who have also been linked with a move.

Barcelona are also set to complete the signing of Athletic Club winger Nico Williams, with the Blaugrana eager to back Hansi Flick in the transfer market following an impressive debut campaign at the helm.

Man Utd want Bryan Mbeumo

With Bardghji heading to Barcelona, Man Utd will be forced to pursue alternative options, and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo remains their top target.

The Red Devils are facing significant competition from Tottenham Hotspur, however, and The Transfers Podcast understands that Mbeumo could favour a move to north London in order to continue working with Thomas Frank.

Elsewhere, Man Utd are also eager to purchase a new centre forward, with Rasmus Hojlund edging closer to an Old Trafford exit amid interest from Inter Milan.
