Amorim picks his next signing: Man Utd target ambitious loan deal

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Joao Palhinha on a season-long loan deal after accepting defeat in their pursuit of Atalanta’s Ederson.
Ruben Amorim is eager to bolster his first-team squad with the addition of a new central midfielder, following the departure of Christian Eriksen on a Bosman deal, and Palhinha has emerged as a potential transfer target.
The Portugal international joined Bayern for a fee of €51 million last summer, after their failed pursuit in 2023, but he struggled to establish himself as a regular in Vincent Kompany’s preferred starting XI amid competition from the likes of Joshua Kimmich, Aleksandar Pavlovic and Leon Goretzka.
As a result, Palhinha has been linked with an exit this summer and Man Utd are ready to explore a loan move for the 29-year-old, according to GiveMeSport.
The former Fulham midfielder is set to hold internal talks with the Bayern hierarchy over his future at the club and Man Utd are now waiting for the outcome of these negotiations as they weigh up a potential loan bid ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.
Bayern are reportedly considering whether to sanction a loan move in order for Palhinha to rediscover his best form, but the Bundesliga champions may demand a permanent transfer instead.
Man Utd have identified Palhinha as a “low-cost option” to bolster their midfield roster and his experience in the Premier League is seen as a major plus by INEOS.

Man Utd to miss out on Ederson
Man Utd’s eagerness to bring Palhinha to Old Trafford comes after they accepted defeat in their pursuit of Atalanta midfielder Ederson.
The Brazilian was earmarked as Amorim’s top midfield target for this summer, however Man Utd are unable to match his price tag of at least €50m due to their desire to sign attacking reinforcements.
Matheus Cunha has already arrived at Old Trafford for a fee of €74.2m, while the Red Devils are also determined to sign Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo and a new centre forward before the 2025-26 season kicks off.
