Man City’s fifth summer signing announced as 2025 spending spirals to over €340m

Fabrizio Romano has announced that Manchester City have completed their fifth deal of the summer transfer window.
Pep Guardiola’s side have swooped to complete a move for Norway sensation Sverre Nypan, who was previously coveted by rivals Arsenal and Manchester United.
The arrival of the 18-year-old from Rosenborg continues the costly rebuild of the Etihad club, which has taken place since the beginning of the year.
Romano reported on X: “Understand Manchester City sign all documents for Sverre Nypan deal and medical has been booked on Monday.
“Top signing for Man City as Nypan seen among best European talents, he’ll cost €15m.
“Deal done by Rafaela Pimenta with clear plan for Nypan’s long term development.”
How much money have Manchester City spent this summer?
City have made impressive headway in the summer transfer window already. Deals to sign Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Ait-Nouiri and Rayan Cherki were locked in to allow the duo to play in the FIFA Club World Cup, and there is apparently no relent in the spending of Guardiola’s side.
Netherlands international Reijnders cost €55m while Ait-Nouri and Cherki cost a combined €73.3m with the addition of backup goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli adding around with the addition of backup goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli adding around €2.5m to that figure.
Nypan’s arrival means that the Cityzens have already splashed out around €145m in the transfer market.
Man City: Summer 2025 signings
Name | From | Fee |
Tijjani Reijnders | AC Milan | €55m |
Rayan Ait-Nouri | Wolves | €36.8m |
Rayan Cherki | Lyon | €36.5m |
Sverre Nypan* | Rosenborg | €15m |
Marcus Bettinelli | Chelsea | €2.3m |
This comes hot on the heels of a record January spend. City’s spending earlier in the year exceeded €200m as they added Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez, Kodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis and Juma Bah to Guardiola’s squad.
The lavish investment City have made in their squad comes amid a backdrop of controversy, with 115 charges continuing to hang over the club as claims of financial rule breaching dog the Etihad outfit. If found guilty, the potential consequences of this include fines, points deductions or even Premier League expulsion.
Man City’s big spending suggests the club are confident they will be cleared of any wrongdoing, however.
