The Reds completed a British record deal to sign Wirtz for €136 million from Bayer Leverkusen, with the Germany international the Anfield club’s second signing of the summer after the earlier arrival of Jeremie Frimpong. Milos Kerkez is on track to join Arne Slot’s side next week.

With these deals wrapped up, Liverpool are in the market for a striker and have earmarked up-and-coming teenager Will Wright of Salford City as their next summer addition, according to DaveOCKOP.

Wright has previously been rumoured to be a target for both Arsenal and Manchester City, notably featuring for Salford against in an 8-0 FA Cup loss to Pep Guardiola’s side earlier this season.

The 17-year-old has primarily been involved in Salford’s youth teams, scoring over 40 goals at academy and reserve level in the campaign just completed.

A strong and quick forward, Wright thrives inside the opposition's area. He's good at making runs behind the defence and finding space in the box to score goals.

Big-spending Liverpool haven’t forgotten the future

Liverpool have shown a commitment to spending big on some of the best players in the world with their deal to sign Wirtz, yet equally they have balanced this by signing for the future.

Already this summer, they have added young Hungarian goalkeeper Armin Pecsi to their ranks as a leading prospect.

But the Anfield side has also sought to bring some of the best English youngsters to the club each summer, snapping up Rio Ngumoha 12 months ago. They have also signed the likes of Trey Nyoni, Bobby Clark, Harvey Elliott and Kaide Gordon in recent times at aa young age.

For Wright, he would undoubtedly initially slot into the club's U21 team, just like the aforementioned names have done. But he's also eligible to play for the U18s, so it will be interesting to see how Liverpool look to build him up long-term.
