The Belgian is leaving Manchester after a glorious decade-long stint at the Etihad. The playmaker featured in his final game for the Cityzens at the weekend as he is not expected to take part in Man City's Club World Cup campaign.

De Bruyne was not offered a new contract by the club and will leave as a six-time Premier League and one-time European champion, while also being widely regarded as one of English football's finest-ever midfielders.

His next destination has been the subject of plenty of speculation in recent weeks, with Chicago Fire in particular pushing hard to make him one of the best-paid players in Major League Soccer.

However, after careful consideration with his family, it looks as though De Bruyne is set to remain in Europe and link up with one of the continent's most iconic clubs.

De Bruyne set for Napoli

According to Fabrizio Romano, newly-minted Serie A champions Napoli have made the 33-year-old a 'huge' contract offer, and it seems that it has thoroughly convinced him.

Club president Aurelio de Laurentiis and sporting director Giovanni Manna have now addressed the links to De Bruyne and confirmed that a move is seemingly close to being completed.

"I really think so," the president responded when asked if De Bruyne will join soon. "I think he has already bought a beautiful villa. This morning, I connected with him, his wife and his 9-year-old son, and it was a beautiful sight, a fantastic family.

However, De Laurentiis also made sure not to jump the gun. "Until the ink is dry, there is no news," he added. Similarly, Manna said: "We've been working in that direction [signing De Bruyne] for a long time. We don't want to give the fans false hope, but we're working in that direction."
