West Ham United have secured the signing of prolific Celtic teenager Daniel Cummings, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed.

The Irons have long been linked with the 19-year-old Scot, who has failed to make an impact on Brendan Rodgers’ plans at Parkhead and has chosen to depart for the Premier League side as a free agent in the summer.

It leaves Celtic accepting a small training fee for the Glasgow-born player, who is reckoned to be one of the hottest prospects in Scotland. He scored 23 goals in 23 games in the Lowland League, the fifth tier of the Scottish game, for the Bhoys’ reserve team but also bagged six in seven UEFA Youth League outings.

Despite this, Cummings played just one first-team match for the Hoops this season and appeared on the bench on only one further occasion. As such, he has chosen to leave for Graham Potter’s side.

Romano took to X to confirm: “Daniel Cummings will join West Ham on July 1st, agreement done and here we go!

“Celtic talent has scored 30 goals this season and made his Champions League debut at Villa Park.

“Medical complete and deal done. Celtic will get £300k training compensation.”

Daniel Cummings to West Ham: A deal that splits Celtic opinion

This deal has been in the works since January and has come about because Cummings believes West Ham will offer him better career prospects and a more defined pathway to first-team football.

Rodgers had previously hinted that Cummings’ desire to leave was a major decision to leave him out in the cold at Parkhead.

“In terms of Daniel’s output, his goals in his games, he’s done very well. But there are a lot of factors I consider when bringing in a young player. Ability is the first thing I look at, but your attitude and application are just as important,” the Celtic boss said.

“Be patient and trust the club, you'll get there. If you don't, you might listen to your agent, who's got a different agenda.”

But while the manager has suggested the player’s attitude was not right, Sky Sports pundit Andy Walker says the teen deserved more of a spotlight.

“He’s the one I thought would have got some game time. He’s scoring goals regularly in the UEFA Youth League. Unbelievably, he came on to make an appearance against Aston Villa out of nowhere,” the former Scotland striker said.

Cummings’ move to West Ham represents a major coup for the Premier League side, who have captured a rising talent for a bargain fee.
