'We are a selling club': Newcastle and Liverpool given green light for €60m transfer

Thomas Frank has admitted that Brentford status as a ‘selling club’ could lead to Bryan Mbeumo being sold in the summer, although the fee for his services would be ‘expensive’.
Mbeumo is having the best season of his career this year, with 18 goals and six assists from the right wing, which has led to speculation linking him to the likes of Newcastle and Liverpool among other sides.
Brentford operate with one of the smallest budgets in the Premier League and, while Frank believes there is a chance that Mbeumo could still be at the club next season, the Bees manager revealed the club would be ‘open’ to their top scorer’s departure.
“I’m the head coach, I want my best players to stay forever,” Frank told Sky Sports. “I know that Bryan is very happy being here at Brentford, he’s thriving, doing well and playing fantastic. What happens in the future? I don’t know.
“I’ve said many times: we are a selling club. But at the same time we have to reinforce that there are ten clubs in the world who aren’t selling clubs.
“So of course if the right price – and that’s going to be expensive – is coming, then I’m sure the club will be open for it. But I’m very happy he’s here, and I’m convinced that Bryan will still be happy playing football here.”
What does the future hold for Bryan Mbeumo?
Mbeumo’s contract expires in 2027, assuming Brentford take up the one-year option in his deal, and this may be the best chance for the club to sell the 25-year-old for his maximum value.
Brentford are thought to be open to Mbeumo’s sale for around €60 million – which would match up with his €57.6m ETV – and his status as a proven Premier League goalscorer is appealing to may sides.

Newcastle are believed to be leading the race for Mbeumo due to their ability to offer regular first team minutes and European football, although Liverpool and Arsenal have held a long-term interest in the forward as a depth option.
Having held onto former star man Ivan Toney until the final year of his contract before a €42m sale to Al-Ahli on deadline day last summer, Brentford could still also choose to keep Mbeumo if they do not receive any appropriate offers, with the Cameroon international still happy with life at the club.
However, Frank’s concession that Brentford will eventually need to sell could give the green light to Newcastle or any sides interested in securing one of the Premier League’s standout players for a relatively low price.
