Former Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho believes that Heung-min Son is good enough to be playing for one of the “best teams” in world football.

Son, 31, joined Spurs for €30 million back in 2015 and he has become a fan favourite in north London, despite the fact he is yet to win a trophy at club level.

The South Korean international was one of Mourinho’s key players during his time at Tottenham and the ‘Special One’ believes Son is good enough to be competing for titles on a regular basis.

Mourinho told EA Sports FC Online (via The Evening Standard): “I look at Son as one of the best players in the world.

“Maybe Tottenham supporters, they are not going to be happy with what I’m going to say, it’s not of course disrespectful. He [Son] could win titles, he could play for the best teams.

“He could be playing in England for Man City, for Liverpool, for Chelsea. It could be abroad, playing in one of the top teams.

“He has this modern mobility of the attacking players. He can play through the middle, he can play from the sides, can be wide, to come inside. Can be inside.”

Heung-min Son to Chelsea?

Chelsea succumbed to their lowest ever finishing position in the Premier League era during a dismal campaign in 2022-23 (12th), but Mourinho still rates the Blues as one of England’s very top teams.

Furthermore, a late season resurgence under Mauricio Pochettino means Chelsea have been widely tipped to overtake Tottenham and finish fifth this year, amid the worrying recent form of Ange Postecoglou’s side.

However, Son was named Spurs captain last summer and is therefore unlikely to jump ship and join their London rivals anytime soon. But, his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is due to expire in 2025, meaning an exit of some kind is plausible within the next 12 months.
