Manchester United are making a shock move to replace Andre Onana with Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin.

Nacional reports that Man Utd have placed an offer for the Ukrainian goalkeeper ahead of the summer transfer market.

Lunin has done an admirable job at Real Madrid this season filling in for Thibaut Courtois, who was ruled out for the campaign with an ACL injury.

But Lunin is keen to find a new club as he knows that Courtois will be first choice once he returns from injury.

Lunin is considering the offer from United, while Madrid are likely to sell as the goalkeeper’s contract expires in 2025.

United are considering replacing their number one Onana after a disappointing first season at the club.

Onana signed for Man Utd last summer for €51 million - plus €4m in bonuses - from Inter Milan.

Big things were expected of the 27-year-old, who had enjoyed an outstanding Champions League season with the Nerazzurri last term, playing a key role in their run to the final.

He kept more clean sheets than anyone in the tournament, including five in the knockout rounds, as Inter narrowly and unluckily lost 1-0 to Man City in the showpiece in June. He was also heralded as the best goalkeeper in the world with the ball at his feet.

However, Onana has endured an error-prone season, even if he has improved somewhat in 2024.

He has made a string of mistakes, in particular in the Champions League group stage elimination in games against Galatasaray, Copenhagen and Bayern Munich.

Onana has interest from Bayern Munich, according to reports in Germany, with the Bavarians looking for a long-term replacement for Manuel Neuer, who is 38 this year.
