Jose Mourinho's Roma sacking could make it difficult for Chelsea to meet financial fair play regulations.

That's because the two clubs had agreed a £37 million deal for Romelu Lukaku, which could now be in jeopardy, according to The Sun.

Lukaku, who is currently on loan in Italy's capital, was due to join on a permanent basis next summer.

However, with Mourinho's sacking, he may no longer be wanted at the Stadio Olimpico.

This wouldn't be for a lack of form, as the Belgian has scored 14 times in 25 games, but for a change of ideas, potentially.

If he were to return to Chelsea, they would swiftly need to get rid of his reported £325,000-a-week wage. And, any transfer fee received would be a huge bonus.

Mourinho back to Chelsea?

Chelsea have been told that Mourinho would have "no hesitation" in returning to the club for a third stint in the dugout.

Speculation has linked the 60-year-old with a potential return to Stamford Bridge, where Mauricio Pochettino has not made a flying start since taking over the club in the summer.

And, new owner Todd Boehly has not shown a great deal of patience with previous managers, with Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Frank Lampard all taking charge of the first team for periods last season.

"There would be no hesitation from Jose Mourinho to return to Chelsea, that is true," Fraser Gillan reports.

"However, it is not on the cards, Chelsea are sticking with Pochettino and have no plans to replace him.
