Andre was born in Ibirataia and he joined Fluminense's youth setup in 2013. Even though he has not played in Europe, he has received multiple call-ups to the Brazil national team. He made his club debut, coming on as a substitute in a 1-0 victory over Atletico Goianiense in the Copa do Brasil. Two years later and Andre, a pivotal member of the side, marked his 150th match for Fluminense.
He also started in the Copa Libertadores final against Boca Juniors earlier this year, contributing to a 2–1 victory after extra time to secure the club’s first title in the competition.
Standing at 5 foot 9 inches, Andre operates as a defensive midfielder with a preference for his right foot. He is deployed in front of the backline, as part of a double-pivot of a 4-2-3-1 / 4-3-3 formation.
