Brazilian media may have jumped the gun in claiming that Chelsea have struck a deal to sign Gabriel Moscardo, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The young midfielder is one of South America's most sought-after commodities. Branded the 'Brazilian Declan Rice,' the 18-year-old has been attracting plenty of attention with his performances for Corinthians.

Moscardo is a holding midfielder, a position that several big European teams are lacking a player for the future in. Chelsea, however, are not one of them, having signed Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and Lesley Ugochukwu for massive money in the summer.

Nevertheless, news out of Brazil on Monday claimed that the Blues had reached an agreement with Moscardo's side over a €25/26 million transfer, representing a club-record sale. That Moscardo will move in 2024 and that it will be for a Corinthians record is all but set in stone, but that he will move to Chelsea isn't, claims Fabrizio Romano.

What did Romano say?

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the transfer expert said of the supposed agreement: "I told you about him in August when Chelsea had a verbal proposal rejected by Corinthians for this very talented Brazilian holding midfielder, one of the best talents in South America in his position."

"But in the last hours, we had a report from an important outlet in Brazil saying that the deal is done between Chelsea and Corinthians on a €25m package for Gabriel Moscardo. I'm here to tell you that, according to my information, there is no agreement at this stage between Chelsea and Corinthians for Moscardo."

"It's not a done deal. It's a player they appreciate, yes for sure, they're well informed on the process, but the news of a done deal between Moscardo, Chelsea and Corinthians is not correct at this stage, according to my information."

"There are many clubs interested in Moscardo, so there could be surprises with other clubs involved...Moscardo will become a record sale for Corinthians and it will be in January, the mission is to leave in the January transfer window, but with Chelsea, at this stage, it's not a done deal."
