Barcelona will be desperate for Jean-Clair Todibo to leave Nice in 2024 as they are set to receive a substantial windfall from his big-money exit, according to a report.

The French defender has established himself as one of the best in his position in Ligue 1 and indeed in all of Europe. With Nice having only conceded a simply incredible four goals in 12 games so far this term, their defence has unsurprisingly attracted the attention of Europe's elite.

Todibo, as the centrepiece of that stout backline, is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after players in France, though he was already being linked with a high-profile move in the summer. Man Utd were reportedly keen on him but couldn't pursue a deal after Harry Maguire's West Ham transfer collapsed.

The Red Devils remain very keen indeed on the 23-year-old, while Chelsea are now also said to be interested in him as a potential Thiago Silva replacement. Todibo is rapidly outgrowing Nice and he is expected to depart in 2024 - though most likely only in the summer - and the French side aren't the only club who will stand to benefit financially from a transfer.

Barcelona windfall

Prior to moving to Nice, Todibo endured a rotten spell on the books at Barcelona as a youngster. After arriving in Catalunya, it quickly became clear that this step came much too soon in his career and not even loans to Schalke and Benfica could salvage what would go down as a flop transfer.

However, according to Sport, when the Blaugrana moved the Frenchman on to Nice, they inserted a 20 per cent sell-on clause in his deal, meaning that they are entitled to a significant share of his next transfer fee.

In the event of interest becoming concrete, Nice are expected to demand at least €40 million for Todibo's services, so the Catalans will pocket some €8m from his 2024 move and potentially even more than that.
