The form of Jude Bellingham and Real Madrid's lack of a world-class number nine have seen Kylian Mbappe's stocks among Los Blancos fans fall drastically, according to Spanish media.

The Frenchman has been the object of the Spanish club's desire for years, but a move has thus far not materialised. While the possibility of him signing next year for free remains as long as he has not put pen to paper on a PSG extension, Real Madrid do not feel the urge to go all out for the 24-year-old anymore.

The stunning success of summer signing Jude Bellingham has made many Real fans forget about Mbappe, who came agonisingly close to joining last year only to turn his back on the club at the eleventh hour, which left many supporters infuriated.

Though the club's sporting leadership is still confident of landing Mbappe in 2024, as recently revealed by a board member, the feeling in some quarters is that there is a more pressing issue: the number nine spot.

Real fans dream of Haaland

According to Madrid-based AS, "Real Madrid's next strategic signing is being cooked over low heat thanks to the peace of mind that comes with having hit the target with the last one. This brilliant start to the Bellingham era in Chamartín has relieved the pressure on Madrid."

"What's more," the report continues, "the club conducts internal surveys on the different names on the market. They also measure the feelings of the fanbase when it speaks out in the media. Mbappé's shares among Real Madrid fans are trading very low. [Erling] Haaland's are still very high."

Madridistas believe that signing an out-and-out striker is more important than adding Mbappe, who is almost seen as a luxury player. Real, moreover, feel that the balance of power has shifted in their favour. While PSG flatter to deceive under Luis Enrique - with Mbappe currently enduring his longest goal drought since 2018 - Los Blancos are flying high; they don't need Mbappe, but Mbappe needs them.

This comes after the news that Mbappe's move to Madrid could be under threat because his mother and agent Fayza Lamari does not possess the necessary licence to comply with FIFA's new regulations, meaning that the Frenchman could be forced to look for a new representative.

Moreover, recent reports out of France claim that Mbappe will delay making a decision on his future until PSG's run in the Champions League comes to an end, something that likely won't go down well with Madrid as it means this saga could yet drag on into the spring rather than being finally resolved in January.
