The Fantasy Premier League deadline for Gameweek Eight is fast approaching, with managers facing a race against time to finalise their team.

As always, FPL managers have a budget of £100 million to spend on 15 players, with 11 starters being supplemented by four bench options every week.

FPL managers must select two goalkeepers, five defenders, five midfielders and three forwards with their £100m budget, with more emphasis placed on the starting XI.

Here is FootballTransfers’ selection for the best Gameweek Eight team in FPL 2023-24.

Using the cheapest options possible for the bench - a £3.9m goalkeeper, a £3.9m defender, a £4.4m midfielder and a £4.4m forward - there is £83.4m left for the starting XI.

Formation: 3-4-3

Goalkeeper: Robert Sanchez - Chelsea (£4.6m)

Chelsea’s defence has once again been their strong point this season and Robert Sanchez currently has the joint-most clean sheets of any goalkeepers in 2023-24 so far (three).

Furthermore, the Spaniard has scored 33 FPL points this season - the second-most of any goalkeeper (behind Bernd Leno). A trip to Turf Moor to face a Burnley side with only six goals this campaign is therefore an enticing fixture.

Defender: Pedro Porro - Tottenham (£5m)

Christian Romero and Destiny Udogie are the most popular Tottenham defenders in FPL this year, but Pedro Porro is a very shrewd pick and is currently owned by less than 10% of managers.

He scored seven points against Liverpool last time out and with Tottenham facing Luton this weekend, Porro is a great shout for your FPL defence.

Defender: James Tarkowski - Everton (£4.4m)

Despite the appointment of Andoni Iroala, Bournemouth’s attack has not improved and is currently the joint-worst in the Premier League.

Their tally of five goals this season is the same as Sheffield United and Fulham’s and a trip to Goodison Park is therefore a worrying fixture for their blunt attack. Sean Dyche’s men suffered a shock 2-1 loss to Luton last time out and will be looking to put that right this weekend.

Defender: Levi Colwill - Chelsea (£4.6m)

As mentioned with Rob Sanchez, Chelsea’s defence has been very good this year and at just £4.6m, Levi Colwill is a great route into their backline.

The Englishman continues to play at left-back and he picked up his first assist of the season and 12 points against Fulham on Monday. Against Burnley, expect the possibility for more attacking returns and a potential clean sheet.

Defender: Joachim Andersen - Crystal Palace (£4.8m)

No defender has scored more than Joachim Andersen’s 45 FPL points this season, with the Crystal Palace man notching double-digit hauls on two occasions so far this term.

He bagged 15 points versus Man Utd last week and with Nottingham Forest visiting Selhurst Park on Saturday, Andersen is an excellent option for your FPL team.

Midfielder: Mohamed Salah - Liverpool (£12.5m)

Mohamed Salah had contributed a goal or an assist in every game this season until the 2-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur. However, he was the player who slotted Luis Diaz through on goal for his incorrectly disallowed goal, so Salah should have tallied another goal contribution last week.

The Egyptian may be expensive, but he’s a reliable figure in Fantasy Premier League and Liverpool’s form is excellent on the whole.

Brighton have been impressive this season, but their 6-1 loss to Aston Villa proves they can be beaten, and beaten heavily. Roberto De Zerbi’s side have not kept a clean sheet this campaign, so Liverpool are likely to score at the AMEX. As a result, Salah is an obvious choice.

Midfielder: James Maddison - Tottenham (£8m)

James Maddison has seen his price rise by £0.5m since the start of FPL 2023-24, which is just reward for his excellent start to life at Tottenham.

The Englishman has already become the creative hub of Ange Postecoglou’s side and he’ll be licking his lips at the prospect of an away trip to Kenilworth Road to face Luton Town.

Rob Edwards’ side did pick up a win last weekend, but Tottenham and Maddison will be confident of keeping up their unbeaten start to the new season.

Midfielder: Son Heung-min - Tottenham (£9.4m)

After a disappointing year in 2022-23, Son Heung-min is back to his best at Tottenham in a new centre-forward role.

Despite that position change on the pitch, he remains a midfielder in FPL, which is why he’s an excellent pick this year.

Only Ollie Watkins, Bukayo Saka and Erling Haaland have registered more points than Son this season and he has scored 43 of his 51 FPL points this year in the past four matches.

Midfielder: Cole Palmer - Chelsea (£4.9m)

Cole Palmer started his first Premier League game for Chelsea against Fulham and he was majestic on the pitch.

The England U21 star provided the match-winning assist for Nicolas Jackson against Brighton in the Carabao Cup and registered an assist on FPL versus the Cottagers when Armando Broja scored.

Chelsea look like they may have clicked and Palmer is at the heart of that change. This could be an excellent differential pick with only 0.5% ownership.

Forward: Erling Haaland - Man City (£14.1m)

Erling Haaland is owned by 90.5% of FPL managers, but that has dropped by around 2% following his blank against Wolves last week.

The Norwegian also failed to score versus RB Leipzig in the Champions League in midweek and with Man City travelling to the Emirates to face Arsenal this weekend, Haaland isn’t a nailed on pick.

However, he netted in both Premier League games against the Gunners last season and even provided two assists in the home fixture.

Forward: Ollie Watkins - Aston Villa (£8m)

Two weeks ago, Ollie Watkins had not scored in the Premier League this season. Now, he has four goals in the competition and is back in the England squad.

His hat-trick against Brighton earned him a huge 23 points last weekend and Watkins is a great pick again this weekend, with Villa set to face Wolves.
