Graham Potter is a candidate to replace Gareth Southgate in 2024, but he would prefer to remain a club manager, according to a report.

The 48-year-old is still unattached after being sacked by Chelsea in the spring off the back of a torrid spell in charge at Stamford Bridge, not helped, of course, by Todd Boehly's shooting-from-the-hip management of the club.

Since then, Potter has been linked with a host of clubs, ranging from Sir Jim Ratcliffe-owned Nice and Lyon in France to Celtic in Scotland and Leicester City in the Championship. Most recently, Potter was again talked about as potentially heading to the northern UK after Rangers sacked Michael Beale.

However, he snubbed the Gers, who have since appointed Philippe Clement. It was thought that the former Brighton boss may see England as a more attractive next gig than Rangers, but that has now been debunked.

Potter for England?

According to The Telegraph, Potter has indeed been considered by the FA as a potential candidate to replace Gareth Southgate should the England boss depart after Euro 2024 in Germany.

The same report does, however, mention that Potter would prefer to remain a club manager for now, and his aim is to take over a team at some point this season. It seems that the offers he has thus far received simply haven't tickled his fancy.

Among the other options for the England job are Eddie Howe and Jose Mourinho, according to various reports. But having led Newcastle United to the Champions League, the chances of Howe leaving that job at the end of the season appear very minuscule indeed.

For Mourinho, it's a different story. The legendary Chelsea boss is out of contract in the summer and could even be sacked before then due to Roma's poor results in Serie A this season. It is said that he could be tempted by international football at his age, but he will also have lucrative Saudi offers once he departs Italy.
