Sofyan Amrabat is set to complete a medical after Manchester United and Fiorentina agreed a loan for the midfielder, reports Fabrizio Romano.

Man Utd had been working to sign the 27-year-old for months but now the side have clinched a move for the 27-year-old.

As FootballTransfers reported almost two months ago, Erik ten Hag pinpointed the players as his number-one signing for midfield.

The Red Devils had been after the Morocco international all summer and have their man with a deal that includes an option to buy.

Amrabat had waited all summer for the move to take place, but Man Utd’s inability to sell on a host of their current setup meant that they could not afford to sign him.

Recent minor sales, such as the move of Dean Henderson to Crystal Palace, have just tipped the club in being able to sign Amrabat on an initial loan with a buy option set at €20m plus €5m.

Amrabat has made 107 appearances for Fiorentina since joining from Hellas Verona in 2020. He played under Ten Hag when the coach was at FC Utrecht. His name really came to light in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where he helped Morocco reach the semi-finals.

Ten Hag wanted Amrabat for his ability to hold possession, force turnovers, and help in the build-up. The move represents the club’s fourth significant transfer of the summer window.

They have already brought in Mason Mount, Andre Onana, and Rasmus Hojlund. Ten Hag wanted to bolster the holding midfield position ahead of the campaign, but the club have left it to the final day to secure the services of Amrabat, who has just a year left on his current deal, plus an option of an extra year.
