Moises Caicedo wasn't the only big-money midfielder Liverpool failed to land this summer, according to Spanish media.

Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool sporting director Jurgen Schmadtke were faced with a tough task this summer. Several experienced fringe midfielders left and even club captain Jordan Henderson and defensive midfield juggernaut Fabinho departed Anfield during the transfer window.

This meant that the Reds had to carry out something of a midfield revolution. Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai were added earlier in the window, but then, Liverpool's business ground to a halt.

Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia rejected moves to Merseyside, electing to join Chelsea instead, leaving the Reds scrambling to bring in another addition. With Fluminense unwilling to part with Andre while being in the Copa Libertadores, Liverpool had to go back in for - and ultimately sign - Ryan Gravenberch, who had already been a target earlier in the summer when it became clear that a move for Jude Bellingham was impossible.

But Bellingham and Caicedo weren't the only €100m+ midfielders Liverpool attempted to sign.

Failed Guimaraes bid

According to Spanish newspaper AS, Liverpool also made an offer for Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes. The Brazilian was repeatedly linked with the Anfield club during the summer, with Newcastle demanding more than €100m to even consider a sale.

Nothing concrete seemingly materialised at the time, but the above-mentioned report claims that a bid was actually made. It clocked in at €116m and was met with a resounding 'no' from all sides.

But the outlet furthermore claims that the Reds' interest in the Brazilian has not dissipated and that he remains firmly in their plans despite his sizeable price tag.

Liverpool are also expected to go back in for Andre in the winter. Fluminense's sporting director has already revealed that he would be open to selling in January.
