Manchester United Women have made their third signing of the summer, bringing in Brazil forward Geyse from Barcelona.

The 25-year-old joins Man Utd as a replacement for Alessia Russo – the team’s top scorer in each of the last two seasons – who left for Women’s Super League rivals Arsenal earlier this transfer window.

Geyse joins fellow new additions Evie Rabjohn and Gemma Evans in Marc Skinner’s Red Devils squad for the upcoming WSL campaign – which gets underway on October 1.

Geyse’s switch to United comes just over a year after she joined Barcelona – having previously spent time with Madrid CFF and Benfica.

She started Sao Paulo-based outfit Centro Olimpico, before moving on to Brazilian giants Corinthians – from where she was picked up by Madrid CFF.

A member of Brazil’s squad at the ongoing Women’s World Cup – where the Selecao crashed out in the group stage – Geyse made her senior international debut back in 2017 and has gone on to win 48 caps, scoring six goals.

Geyse becomes the second Brazilian in the Red Devils squad, with her international teammate Ivana Fuso having arrived three years ago.

United’s best season yet

Man Utd finished as runners-up behind Chelsea in the WSL last term, marking the highest league finish in their short history.

They also reached their first major final – in the Women’s FA Cup, losing 1-0 to Chelsea at Wembley.

United will be involved in the first game of the 2023/24 WSL campaign, away to Aston Villa.

It will be their fifth season at the highest level of women’s football in England, having been promoted as champions of the Women’s Championship back in 2018/19 – their first campaign following formation.
