The Harry Kane to Bayern Munich transfer saga took another twist on Friday when Tottenham missed a deadline to issue a response to an offer from the Bundesliga club, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano giving his update on the situation.

Kane has been linked with a move away from Tottenham for much of the summer. Initially, Manchester United were the team most associated with the England captain, but their interest quickly fell away and Bayern Munich became prominent.

PSG have briefly looked at the 30-year-old, too, but it is the Bundesliga champions who are proceeding with a move for the player. The only issue now is to get Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to accept a deal.

Romano explains that on Friday morning, Tottenham presented a package worth €100 million plus bonuses to the Premier League club for Kane. He describes the offer as “really important” for a player who is out of contract in 2024.

Bayern slapped a deadline of midnight on Saturday for a response to their bid, but they and their intermediaries received no response from the London side by that time.

What happens to Kane now?

Romano explains that there is now “big tension” between Bayern and Tottenham, who have agreed to sign Alejo Veliz from Rosario Central for around €15m, not as a Kane replacement but as an additional option.

Already there have been games played in these negotiations, with a meeting between the clubs on the last Friday in July postponed unexpectedly by Levy.

Despite this setback, Bayern, who have been looking for a replacement for Robert Lewandowski for over a year, remain optimistic that they can land Kane. Indeed, Romano says that they still feel that the deal can happen and that significant progress can be made over the weekend. Everything is in Daniel Levy’s hands.

Kane has already agreed personal terms with Bayern, with Romano revealing that his wages, clauses and potential bonuses have all been arranged.
