Chelsea may rekindle their interest in Ajax's versatile star Mohammed Kudus after Michael Olise extended his contract at Crystal Palace.

Kudus, 23, looks likely to join former Ajax team-mate Edson Alvarez at West Ham this summer, but Chelsea have previously been linked with a move for the Ghanian and reports suggest the Blues may look to re-enter the race for his signature.

There is a high chance that Chelsea will want to hijack West Ham's attempt to sign Kudus after being rejected by Olise.

Olise had attracted interest from both Chelsea and Manchester City this summer following his outstanding form last season. The 21-year-old winger netted two Premier League goals last term, while he recorded no fewer than 11 assists - the fourth-highest of any player in the English top flight.

The Frenchman's contract at Crystal Palace included a €41 million release clause, which was activated by Chelsea, but Olise decided to reject the chance to re-join the west London club and instead signed a contract extension at Selhurst Park that now runs until mid-2027.

Olise spent seven years in Chelsea's academy before leaving aged 14.

Olise's rejection has sent Chelsea looking for alternatives, and Kudus' name has been touted. The forward, who has 24 caps for Ghana, was one of the bright spots in Ajax's otherwise mediocre performance last season.

Kudus to the Premier League?

In 42 games last campaign, Kudus scored 18 goals and provided seven assists as he earned plaudits from across the continent. He is under contract in Amsterdam until July 2025.

In addition to Chelsea, West Ham are also interested in Ajax's attacking midfielder. The Hammers would be willing to pay 45 million euros. According to sports journalist Ryan Taylor, West Ham are keen to hurry his arrival, as the club's management are aware of the risk of a potential Chelsea hijack.

The Blues have already signed Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson to bolster their forward line, but are looking at a more versatile option that can cover the right flank and the role behind the striker.

The need for this player has increased following Nkunku's knee injury and Olise's rejection.
