Liverpool PRESS AHEAD with transfer despite Fabinho jeopardy

Liverpool will press ahead with their pursuit of Romeo Lavia despite the fact that Fabinho's departure is in doubt now.

The Reds are still in the process of rejigging their midfield after a disappointing season. Plenty of big names have already departed, with Jordan Henderson expected to follow suit soon.

Fabinho was until recently also said to be on the verge of heading to the Saudi Pro League, like Henderson, but The Athletic reports that his transfer is in jeopardy now. Specific details were not mentioned, just that there has been a 'delay in the process' - though this has nothing to do with his dogs being unable to enter Saudi Arabia, as some outlets suggested yesterday (July 24).

The report goes on to say that there is a chance that the Brazilian, who is still under contract until 2026, will remain with the Reds for next season, but both sides nevertheless remain committed to getting his exit over the line. If he were to stay, Liverpool could miss out on as much as €46m, but it appears that this has not stopped them from working on further arrivals.

Liverpool make Lavia approach

Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szobsozlai have already been brought in for a combined outlay of €112m, but Jurgen Klopp and new sporting director Jorg Schmadtke are not done there. They want to add at least another midfielder.

Italian media claim that Liverpool have tried to make a move for Fiorentina star Sofyan Amrabat in recent days, but the Moroccan wants to sign for Manchester United. Lavia, meanwhile, remains a potential target and Liverpool are now trying to take concrete steps towards signing him.

According to Fabrizio Romano, "Liverpool have approached Southampton for Romeo Lavia." As FootballTransfers has been reporting since the start of the year, Liverpool are long-time admirers of the Saints midfielder and this was inevitable.

Romano went on to write that "Jason Wilcox is leading talks now for Southampton and insists on [a] £50m-package deal." This fee could prove problematic, especially if Fabinho stays, but the Reds are intent on getting a deal done.
