Harry Kane's preference would be to play for Manchester United next season, despite Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain stepping up their interest in the Tottenham Hotspur star.

Kane was United's top transfer target heading into the summer transfer window, but most of their £120m budget has been spent on Chelsea's Mason Mount and Andre Onana from Inter Milan.

With the Glazer's sale of United growing increasingly protracted, other European giants have sensed an opportunity. Bayern have seen two bids turned down and PSG are reportedly willing to match them if they were to come back in with a third, improved, offer.

But Kane's would rather remain in England, despite reports from Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg that he has already given his word to Bayern.

'Kane's preference remains Man Utd'

"Kane's main preference remains Manchester United, but they currently do not have the budget and [Spurs chairman Daniel] Levy is least likely to sell to an English club," writes Miguel Delaney in the Independent.

United are unable to make any further big-money signings until they sell some deadwood this summer, with Harry Maguire and Jadon Sancho among a host of players who could be cashed in on.

The Glazer family haven't contributed an equity investment in the club for the last three seasons, and UEFA recently fined United €300,000 for falling foul of Financial Fair Play, quite aside from restricting their summer transfer kitty.

Kane does only have one year left on his Tottenham contract, however, and the Red Devils will be optimistic of beating Bayern and PSG to his signature next summer if he stays at Spurs this.

Kane has Alan Shearer's all-time Premier League goal record of 260 in his sights, but he is also yet to win any silverware in his career, something Bayern and PSG could offer, perhaps more confidently than the modern-day Man Utd.
