AC Milan have made an improved offer for Chelsea's Christian Pulisic, according to The Athletic.

The American's time at Stamford Bridge is coming to an end. This has been known for months. Pulisic struggled to collect consistent minutes last term and only started a handful of games for the Blues.

When he was booed by Chelsea fans, it became clear that "Captain America" had to move on, his time at Chelsea ultimately having been unsuccessful despite a promising start following his much-hyped €64 million arrival from Borussia Dortmund.

AC Milan have been the most active of Pulisic's suitors, but Olympique Lyon also recently entered the race in hopes of snapping the 24-year-old up from under the Rossoneri's noses. Milan's opening offer of €14m was rejected out of hand by Chelsea who could want as much as double that.

This gave Lyon the chance to swoop in with a more attractive €25 million offer, but now Milan have responded.

An improved offer

According to The Athletic's James Horncastle, the Italian side have submitted a second, improved offer worth up to €22 million. This means that Milan's bid still clocks in well below Chelsea's asking price and, indeed, Lyon's proposal.

Last week, Italian media claimed that Milan believe that the Blues are overvaluing Pulisic and the club's two offers appear to confirm those reports. Nevertheless, they will be confident of eventually securing a deal considering that Pulisic has already agreed to personal terms over a move to the San Siro.

Given that Milan are desperate to bring in a creative attacker following Brahim Diaz's return to parent club Real Madrid, however, one would expect more urgency from the Milanese. Horncastle reports that the Rossoneri are also keen on bringing in Villarreal's star winger Samuel Chukwueze.

The race to sign Pulisic seems to be coming down to Milan and Lyon, though other clubs have also previously been credited with an interest in the American, among them Juventus and Napoli.
