How Man Utd can benefit from Bellingham’s Real Madrid move

Manchester United could swoop for Real Madrid star Eduardo Camavinga this summer, as the La Liga giants close in on Jude Bellingham.

Assuming Bellingham completes a move from Borussia Dortmund to Real, fellow midfielder Camavinga could find himself somewhat surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu.

And it would appear that Man Utd have a very keen interest in the France international, 20 – who joined Real from Rennes as an 18-year-old two years ago.

El Nacional claim that United are willing to offer as much as €150m (£129m) to bring Camavinga to Old Trafford – more than twice his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €71.8m.

Such a fee would comfortably surpass the €105m (£89.3m) United shelled out to re-sign Paul Pogba from Juventus in 2016 and make Camavinga the most expensive acquisition in the club’s history.

Talk of a potential approach for Camavinga comes less than 12 months after United spent fairly big to bring another Real midfielder to Old Trafford: Casemiro, who made his €70.7m (£60m) switch last August and proved pivotal as Erik ten Hag’s side secured Champions League qualification for next season.

Camavinga proves his versatility

Camavinga – who has earned eight caps for France, featuring at the 2022 World Cup – won the first major trophies of his career with Real last term, as Carlo Ancelotti steered Los Blancos to La Liga and Champions League glory.

It’s not been such a successful season for Real this time around, but Camavinga has shown off a different aspect to his game by adeptly slotting in at left-back in the absence of Ferland Mendy.

Such versatility could make him a particularly useful addition to United’s squad as they prepare for their return to Europe’s top club competition in 2023/24.
